Jaclyn Horsley Shiflett
Founder/Artistic Director, The Dance Studio
Jaclyn Horsley Shiflett is a Birmingham native who has traveled extensively studying, competing, creating, and performing. Her teaching career began 22 years ago with Monica Barnett Smith, Founder of Exclusively Ballet, who presented the opportunity to choreograph, costume, direct and produce competitive teams and annual recitals. Seven years ago Jaclyn founded The Dance Studio in Hoover, AL where she has continued to encourage young artists to pursue excellence in dance.
Jaclyn specializes in Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary, and Modern and has been training in these styles plus Hip-Hop, and Tap since the age of three. Her pursuits began with Monica Barnett Smith of Exclusively Ballet along-side Wes Chapman and Roger VanFleteren of the Alabama Ballet. She continued her education at the Joffrey Ballet School in New York, The South Carolina Conservatory, STEPS, Broadway Dance Center, Pineapple London, and Birmingham-Southern College, where she double majored in Dance and Business. Throughout her career Jaclyn has diligently pursued continuing education in her field. Most recently, In 2024, she traveled to the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet (CPYB) where she extensively studied their pre-professional ballet curriculum and is now a certified CPYB affiliate teacher. As a performer her favorite role was: Dew Drop Fairy (Nutcracker).
At a young age Jaclyn developed a passion for dance education, personal development, and choreography. Throughout her dance career she has had to opportunity to learn and grow in Conservatory and Commercial environments with: Marcus Bugler, Jose Traba, Joe Fritz, Edward Villella , Susan Jaffe, Teri Weksler, Sheila Barker, Melissa Verzino, Julie Oliver, Mira Popovich, Ruth Henry, Sidney Lowenthal, Joe Lanteri, Tyce Diorio, Stacey Tookey, Mia Michaels, and Travis Wall. She is an avid learner and constantly pursues opportunities to further develop her knowledge base and build upon the inspired foundation set by these industry greats in order to be the best teacher she can be for her students.
It has been an honor to watch students achieve success at the regional, national, collegiate, and professional levels during her career. She has worked with students to earn competitive accolades, scholarships, pre-professional intensive admissions, & undergraduate collegiate admissions. She is grateful for her students and the opportunity to grow along-side them as she pushes them to reach their full potential through technique, performance, and commitment.
Jaclyn also had an exciting career in Financial Services with Ameriprise Financial & RFG Advisory Group where she acquired her Series 7 & 66 licenses, and became a Director within the company. Her true calling was dance education and in 2018 she decided to take the leap.
